Abstract

This study aims to determine the use of song as a technique of teaching listening. Listening is part of the four basic skills of English. Such as writing, reading, and speaking skills. Listening has an important role in communication and is also very important in English class. However, vocabulary and lack of listening practice are problems for the class X students. That is the reason why the researcher decided to conduct research using various media such as songs. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques of observation and evaluation in the classroom. The final result of the researcher shows that the average score of 86 obtained by students in the process of listening to English is included in the category of fairly good scores. This shows that efforts can be made to develop students' listening skills by using a variety of learning media and using relevant teaching materials. By using the media song can improve the quality of learning to listen to students. Using songs in the learning process, especially in listening lessons, makes the classroom atmosphere pleasant and students can also improve their listening skills as one of the meaningful strategies to overcome listening problems.
