Abstract

Communal Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) include the protection of intangible cultural heritage, such as oral traditions, manuscripts, traditional knowledge, and traditional technologies that are passed down through generations. Protection of communal IPRs is important to preserve cultural identity and prevent unilateral claims by outsiders, while ensuring that social, economic, and cultural benefits are felt by indigenous peoples. Karawang Regency, with its cultural diversity, faces challenges in protecting communal intellectual property. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of Karawang Regency Regional Regulation No. 2 of 2024 in protecting communal IPR and provide recommendations for strengthening legal protection of traditional cultural property. A normative juridical approach is used to analyze existing regulations and evaluate their implementation at the local level. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the strengthening of more effective local cultural protection policies
