COMPARISON OF EXTRACT SHALLOW SKIN WITH THE BORAX ON THE PRESERVATION OF GLUGU WOOD THROUGH PHYSICAL TESTS AND MECHANICAL TESTS
Abstract
One oh the efforts to increas the life span of wood is by preservation, there are two ingredients used to preserving wood, natural and chemical. This research aims to analyze the comparison of wood preservation result using Borax and wood preservation using extract of Shallot skin. Teh wood used is Glugu wood / Coconut wood (Cocos Nucifera) which is a type of wood with a low-lasting a durable class III and for a class of strong wood is included in a strong class II-III. The method used is the cold soaking prevertion method with a concentration of 5% and 10% for each prevervative the is carried out at the Semarang State University Laboratory. The results of the study through of Glugu wood preservation with the extract of Shallout skin get greater value than the preservation of Glugu wood with Borax material. From this study it can be concluded that the preservation of Glugu wood using the ingredients of Shallot skin and the preservation using Borx material can increase the life of the wood.
