Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationships of training and the work environment with employee competence and work productivity—both individually and simultaneously—as well as the role of competence as an intervening variable. A quantitative method was employed, utilising the entire population of 60 employees from the Pinang District, Tangerang City, as a saturated sample. Data were collected via questionnaires and analysed using SmartPLS software. The results indicate that training, when considered in isolation, does not have a significant relationship with either employee productivity or competence. Conversely, the work environment was found to have a positive and significant relationship with both. Competence also demonstrated a significant relationship with work productivity. Simultaneous analysis revealed that training and the work environment collectively influence competence and productivity. However, while competence significantly mediates the relationship between the work environment and productivity, it does not significantly mediate the relationship between training and productivity. These findings highlight the importance of creating a conducive work environment and aligning training with actual operational needs to positively impact competence development and enhance employee productivity.
