Abstract

Loading and unloading activities in warehouse environments often involve direct interaction between workers and mechanical equipment as well as structural elements of the warehouse that can pose hazards. One identified risk at the Central Warehouse is the presence of door clamp irons protruding into the work pathway, causing foot injury incidents among Loading and Unloading Workers (TKBM). This study aims to evaluate the potential hazards of this component and develop a simple protective device called the "guardian button," which functions as a physical barrier between workers and sharp objects. The research was conducted using a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques through field observations, interviews, technical simulations, and questionnaires distributed to 30 workers. The observations showed that after the implementation of the device, no new incidents were reported during a 4-week trial period. Risk analysis indicated a decrease in risk level from moderate to low. Worker perception assessments revealed that 92% felt safer and that the device did not interfere with work mobility. Economically, the device required low production costs, approximately IDR 5,000 per unit, and has the potential to save up to IDR 10
