LEVERAGING SPEEDY ENGLISH GRAMMAR GAME IN TEACHING WRITING FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

Studies on the use of mobile applications-based educational games for English learning media for teaching and learning writing skills had found positive results in improving students' writing ability and learner engagement. This research aims to examine the effect of using English Grammar Application named Speedy English Grammar Game as a learning media on students’ writing recount text at the tenth grade students of SMK Lab Business School Tangerang year 2021/2022. This was a quantitative research method using quasi experimental research of non-equivalent control group design. The samples were 28 students in the experimental class and 28 students in the control class were selected purposively. The data were collected by using pre-test and post-test also the questionnaire as the supporting data. In accordance to the data analysis, there was a significant difference between the mean score of the experimental class taught by using Speedy English Grammar Game and the control class taught by using the conventional teaching method. Hence, the result showed that the use of Speedy English Grammar Game imparts a significant effect on students’ writing ability in recount text rather compared to the conventional teaching.
